FIVE THINGS: Flyers at Pittsburgh Penguins

This is the third of four games on the year against the Penguins with the season series wrapping up in Philadelphia five days from now on Sunday, Apr. 5… The Flyers are 2-0-0 against the Penguins this season, with the last meeting coming on Jan. 20, and have won six consecutive meetings against the Penguins with Pittsburgh’s last win coming on Oct. 17, 2013… The Flyers are also unbeaten in regulation in the last seven games playing in Pittsburgh, going 5-0-2, and have an overall winning percentage of .846 at CONSOL Energy Center with a mark of 10-1-1 since it opened in 2010-11… The Flyers have the most wins against the Penguins than any other team they have played in franchise history with 148 victories in 271 meetings (148-85-30-8).



Of the 13 goals scored in the series, only one has come on the power-play with the Flyers scoring the only PPG and going a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill… The two teams have combined for 115 penalty minutes in the two games (PHI: 70, PIT: 45)… The Flyers have had 12 different players record a point in the season series with Couturier, Giroux and Voracek each posting three points in two games… Nick Spaling leads the Penguins in the season series with three points (1g-2a)… Ray Emery started both games against the Penguins this year, going 2-0-0 with a 2.42 GAA and a .917 save percentage… Defenseman Paul Martin has one goal and is a +5 in the two game series so far this year… Claude Giroux averages over a point-per-game with 31 points (11g-20a) in 30 career games… Evgeni Malkin has 60 career points (22g-38a) in 45 games and the most penalty minutes (70) against the Flyers than any other player on the Penguins roster.


After playing just two games in the last 10 days, the Flyers now enter the month of April with a stretch in which they will play six games in an 11-day span to end the regular season… The Flyers are winless in their last nine road games (0-5-4) and are looking to avoid their 10th straight loss on the road in 23 years - Dec. 27, 1991 through Feb. 4, 1992 (0-8-2)… The Penguins come into tonight having won two straight games and are 3-1-1 in their last five… Claude Giroux has a four-game goal-scoring streak and an overall five-game point streak where he has six points (5g-1a) in that stretch… Michael Raffl has goals in three straight and points in five of his last seven games (4g-1a)… The Penguins have scored the first goal in 44 of their 76 games this season, posting a 32-6-6 record when doing so.

Voracek (76 pts) enters tonight’s game three points behind Sidney Crosby (79 pts) for the NHL’s scoring lead, but is tied for the NHL lead in assists (55) along with Capitals Nicklas Backstrom… Voracek is currently riding a four-game point streak in which he has seven points, all assists… Voracek has surpassed his career-high in assists by 16, and points by 14 both set last year, while he is two goals shy of tying his career-high in goals, also set last season… Against the Pens, Voracek averages over a point per-game in his career, recording 23 points (10g-13a) in 22 games… His 23 points are the most he has against any other team in his career. Crosby leads the NHL scoring race with 79 points in 71 games… Lately, Crosby has points in three straight games, recording five points (1g-4a), while also recording points in five of his last six games… Of his 10 NHL seasons, Crosby has surpassed 70 points seven times and is looking to capture his second straight, and third overall NHL scoring title, having won it in 2006-07 and 2013-14… Crosby is one goal shy of his 300th career NHL goal… In 50 career games against the Flyers, Crosby is scoreless in both games of the season series and in four of his last five games against the Flyers, but still has 30 goals and 45 assists for 75 points to average 1.50 points-per-game against Philadelphia.
