  GAME NOTES  I Preview

Tonight is the first of three meetings between the Flyers and Sens… It's also the first of two meetings within a week and all three meetings take place within a month as they wrap up the season series on Dec. 9… The Flyers have won two of the last three meetings at Ottawa and went 2-1-0 against the Sens last season, winning both games by a 2-1 score… They have won the season series against the Sens the last two years… Jakub Voracek led the Flyers last season with two goals in the three games, while Colin Greening led the Sens with three points (1g-2a)… Overall, the Flyers own a 37-29-8-4 record against Ottawa since their expansion in 1992-93.

The Flyers have earned points in the standings in five of their last eight games, going 4-3-1 in that span and have points in each of their last three road games, going 2-0-1… The Sens come into tonight's game having earned points in each of their last five games, going unbeaten in regulation in the month of November so far at 3-0-2, including winning their last three contests and outscoring their opponent, 11 to 4 in those three games.

The Flyers open up a five-day, three-game road trip tonight against Ottawa, while the Senators are in the midst of a five-game homestand… Tonight is also the first of games on back-to-back nights, both of which are on the road - the Flyers are 0-3-0 in the first game of back-to-backs… The Senators are 5-0-1 when they score the first goal… Both teams are winless when trailing after the first period (OTT: 0-4-2 & PHI: 0-6-0)… The Flyers have scored 50 percent (13 of 26) of their goals in the first period… Ray Emery was drafted by the Senators in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and played in the organization from 2002-08 posting an NHL record of 71-40-14 … Andrej Meszaros was also drafted by Ottawa (2004, 1st round, 23rd overall) and played for the Sens from 2005-08, posting 110 points (26g-84a)… Both Emery and Mezsaros helped lead Ottawa to the 2007 Stanley Cup Final.

4. Player to watch FLYERS: Claude Giroux - (C) #28
Giroux posted his first goal of the season in Saturday's win vs. Edmonton… He is now tied for the team lead in scoring with eight points (1g-7a) and has recorded at least a point in seven of his last 11 games… Against the Sens, Giroux has 12 points (3g-9a) in 18 career games… Ottawa is also where Giroux made his NHL debut at age 20 on Feb. 19, 2008.

5. Player to watch SENATORS: Erik Karlsson - (D) #65
The 2012 Norris Trophy winning defenseman is tied for second on the team in scoring with 18 points (6g-12a)… His 18 points on the blueline lead all NHL defensemen… He also has six multi-point games so far this season… Karlsson has recorded at least a point in six of his last seven games with four goals and 10 points in that span… Against the Flyers, Karlsson has seven assists and nine points in 11 career games.
