FIVE THINGS: Flyers at Nashville Predators

T he Flyers resume their eight game road trip tonight in Nashville after a three-day holiday break… The second leg of the road trip is 4,646 miles, bringing the total to 7,297 miles during the 16-day span… They are a perfect 3-0-0 so far on the trip, posting 16 goals in that span, 12 of which have come in the first (6) and third periods (6)… The Flyers have not won four straight games on the road since the 2011-12 season (Dec. 2-15, 2011)… The Flyers have also earned at least a point in the standings in nine of their last 10 games, going 6-1-3… After going eight straight games with a power-play goal, the Flyers have not scored on the man-advantage in their last four games, going 0-for-9… The Flyers sit six points back for the third and final playoff position in the Metropolitan Division .

T he Predators are one of five teams in the NHL that have lost fewer than 10 games in regulation so far this year (PIT, DET, FLA & ANH)… They have not lost two games in-a-row in any fashion this year, posing a perfect 10-0-0 mark in games after a loss… Nashville has the third-best goal differential in the NHL, scoring 25 more times than allowing goals and leads the NHL League in goals for/against ratio when five-on-five (1.66)… The Predators have 16 of their 22 wins on the year when out-shooting their opponent 16-4-0… The Preds have given up the least amount of goals in the second period (19) among all NHL teams… The Preds also take the second fewest amount of penalty minutes in the league, averaging 7.9 PIMs per-game.

T his is the first time that the Flyers will face former head coach Peter Laviolette… This is also the first time since the year 2000 that a Flyers/Predators game will not involve Scott Hartnell or Kimmo Timonen - the last time that happened was March 21, 2000… The Flyers own a 7-3-2 record against teams from the Western Conference, winning their last three against the West, while Nashville has a 6-4-0 mark against the East… Jakub Voracek comes into tonight as the NHL’s leading scorer at 46 points and leading in assists (32) - he also has three goals and six assists for nine points in his last four games… Claude Giroux has six points (3g-3a) in the first three games of this road trip - he is tied for third overall in the NHL’s scoring race… Voracek & Giroux combine for 62 assists and 87 points through 34 games, more than any other duo in the NHL… Preds defensemen, Shea Weber and Roman Josi are both in the Top 5 of all NHL players in average time-on-ice, with both players averaging over 26 minutes of TOI per-game .

Couturier has five goals and 10 points in his last 11 games, recording at least a point in  eight of those games, including two goals and an assist in the first three games on the road trip… On the road this season, Couturier has 72.2 percent of his points (13 of 18) and six of his nine goals away from the Wells Fargo Center… Couturier is one point shy of 100 career points in the NHL, and his 239 games so far have been the most of any player taken his draft year (2011), while ranking third in his draft year in points… Against the Predators, Couturier has two goals and three points in four career meetings.

Forsberg leads the team in goals (13) and points (32) while also tying for the lead in assists (19)… His 13 goals, 19 assists and 32 points also leads all rookies in the NHL, while his plus-minus rating of +24 leads all players in the NHL… Recently, Forsberg has points in three of his last four games and six of his last nine games, recording three goals and six assists in that nine-goal span… This will be his first game against the Flyers in his career… Forsberg was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals 11th overall in 2012, but was acquired by the Predators for forwards Martin Erat and Michael Latta on April 3, 2013.
