FIVE THINGS: Flyers at Florida Panthers

The Flyers suffered their first regulation loss in nine days at Tampa on Thursday, snapping a three-game win streak… The Flyers have scored three goals or more in eight of their last nine contests and have earned a point in the standings in six of their last eight… Following tonight’s game, the Flyers will open up a four-game homestand and play six of their next eight games at the Wells Fargo Center… The Panthers come into tonight riding a five-game point streak, going 3-0-2, including a win in their last game - a 2-1 win at home over Arizona - but they have not won back-to-back games so far this season… The Panthers have had seven of their eight games, including their last six, decided by one goal this season… Florida has also scored the fewest number of goals than any other team in the NHL, posting just 12 goals in eight games.

This is the first of three meetings against the Panthers and only meeting in Florida this season… In fact, tonight’s game is the first of two meetings against the Panthers in a span of six days when they face Florida at home on Nov. 6… The Flyers also wrap up the season series against the Panthers before the New Year, with their final meeting on Dec. 18, playing all three games in a span of 48 days… The Flyers went 2-1-0 against the Panthers last season, winning one of two in Florida, but besides the one set back last season, have a good record against the Panthers in their own building, going 6-1-0 since the 2010-11 season… Overall the Flyers have a 28-12-1-0 mark in 41 games against the Panthers in Sunrise, Fla.

The Flyers will get to see the #1 overall pick in last year’s draft, defenseman Aaron Ekblad - he has two assists and ranks fourth on the team in average time on ice at nearly 22 minutes per-game (21:56)… Steve Mason has an overall record of 6-1-0 with a 1.55 GAA and .950 save percentage in seven career appearances against the Panthers… Vincent Lecavalier will be in the line-up tonight after missing the previous seven games… Matt Read has six goals and seven points in nine games against the Panthers, including his first career hat trick… Claude Giroux scored his first goal in the NHL against the Panthers at Florida on Jan. 27, 2009… Panthers forward Brandon Pirri has scored a goal in each of this last three games and his three goals also lead the Panthers this year… Former Flyer Scottie Upshall will be playing in his 499th game in the NHL tonight… The Panthers have 10 players on their roster who are under the age of 25, including two players under 20-years-old (Barkov & Ekblad).


Voracek comes into tonight with 15 points (3g-12a), which is tied for the NHL lead with Sidney Crosby and Tyler Seguin… He is also tied for the NHL lead in even-strength points (12) with Henrik Zetterberg… His 12 assists also lead all players in the NHL… Voracek has recorded four consecutive multi-point games with a goal and seven assists in that span… He has recorded a point in nine of 10 games on the season so far with his only scoreless game coming in a 4-0 shut out loss at Chicago… Voracek ranks fourth among all Flyers forwards in time-on-ice per-game at 18:29 - Giroux, Couturier & Read are all ahead of him… Against the Panthers, Voracek has just five points (3g-2a) in 13 career games.

Jokinen is on a three-game point streak, posting four assists in that span… He is in his first season with the Panthers after spending parts of the last two seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins… He signed a four-year contract with Florida on the first day of Free Agency this past summer… In his 10th season in the NHL, Jokinen has over 400 points (418) in 668 games, and is tied for the team lead in scoring with his four assists… Against the Flyers, Jokinen averages nearly a point per-game with 20 points (9g-11a) in 23 games, including four points (2g-2a) in five-games against the Flyers last season while he was with the Penguins.
