Philadelphia Flyers (1-4-0)

Detroit Red Wings (2-2-0)

  GAME NOTES  I Preview

For the second straight weekend the Flyers play the second half of games on back-to-back nights, having dropped the first in a 2-1 loss at Carolina… The Flyers have 14 sets of back-to-back games this season, nine of which the second game ends on the road, including the first five sets to begin the season… Last season the Flyers had 10 back-to-backs and went 6-4-0 in the second  half, including 2-3-0 when the second game was played on the road.

This is the first of three games on the season against the Red Wings and first of two at Detroit (Dec. 4), who is now a member of the Eastern Conference… The last time these two teams met more than twice in a season was over 20 years ago (1992-93)… The Flyers do own an all-time winning record against the Red Wings, going 56-47-21-0 in 124 meetings, however haven't had much success at Detroit, going 19-34-10-0 in 63 meetings… They have won only one time (Jan. 2, 2011) at Detroit in the last 24 years (since Nov. 4, 1988).

The last three Flyers games have not only been decided by one goal, but all three have been a score of 2-1… The Red Wings have not yet scored on the power-play this season, going 0-for-10… Neither goaltender for Detroit has earned a victory in their career against the Flyers (Jimmy Howard: 0-1-0-0 & Jonas Gustavsson: 0-2-0-1)… Daniel Alfredsson has played the most games against the Flyers in his career than any other current Red Wing player (55) - he has 47 points (16g-31a) in that span… Should he get the start, Ray Emery is a perfect 3-0-0 against the Red Wings in his career, going 3-0-0 with a 1.86 GAA in four appearances.

4. Player to watch FLYERS: Mark Streit - (D) #32
Streit averages over a point per-game in his career against the Red Wings with a goal and five assists for six points in five games… He has two assists through his first five games as a Flyer and leads the team defense in shots on goal (11) … Streit also ranks third on the team defense in time-on-ice per game at over 20 minutes per game (20:35), over four of those minutes per-game are on the team's power play (4:22).

5. Player to watch RED WINGS: Pavel Datsyuk - (C) #13
Datsyuk has a goal and an assist in four games so far this season… He has played in just eight games against the Flyers in his career, but has posted five goals and nine points in those contests… Last season he finished T-10th in the NHL in scoring 49 points (15g-34a) and had a +21 rating… He also finished tied for 1st in the NHL with 56 takeaways.
