FIVE THINGS: Flyers at Columbus Blue Jackets

T he Flyers end their 12-day, five-game road trip tonight at Columbus after traveling approximately 5,397 miles from Philly to NY, through California, to Columbus and back to Philly… They have gone 1-2-1 thus far, earning points in each of their last two games… The Flyers have recorded at least one of their goals on the power-play in their last four games, going 4-for-10, and have scored a power-play goal in every game in which they have not been shut out since Nov. 8 (9 of 13)… The Blue Jackets enter tonight on a three-game winning streak, their longest of the season, and are two points behind the Flyers in the Metropolitan Division… Columbus has killed off 14-of-16 (87.5%) penalties in the last five games .

T his  is the third of five meetings against the Blue Jackets on the season and first in Columbus… They split the first two games with the Flyers winning the last meeting, 4-2 on Nov. 22, but dropped a 4-3 decision on Nov. 14… 50 percent of the goals scored in the season series have come on the power play (7 of 14) with the Flyers going 3-for-7 (42.9%) while the Blue Jackets have gone 4-for-7 (57.1%)… Ryan Johansen leads Columbus with four points, all assists, in the season series, while James Wisniewski and Nick Foligno lead with two goals through two games… Claude Giroux and Jakub Vorcek lead the Flyers with four points, each having a goal and three assists… The Flyers are winless in Columbus in their last four games, with their last win coming nearly nine years ago to this date, a 3-1 win on Dec. 13, 2005 .

T he Flyers have scored the game’s first goal in each of their last three games, after going the first 11 games of the season allowing the first goal on the road… They are 6-1-2 in games when they score first… Columbus has also scored the first goal in three straight games and are 8-3-1 when scoring the first goal of the game this season… The Flyers have a 5-4-1 record when they have at least a two-day break in games in the schedule, winning their most recent, a 2-1 victory in LA… Columbus forward Brandon Dubinsky returns to the line-up for the first time after missing the first 26 games of the season due to an abdominal injury - It will be his 499th career NHL game and he his one goal shy of 100 in NHL career… The Blue Jackets have not won a game this season when trailing after the second period (0-11-0)… By the end of the season, the two teams will have faced each other nine times over the course of two seasons - Prior to that stretch, they faced each other 11 times in Columbus’s 12 seasons in the NHL (2000-12) .

Voracek has four points in just two games in the season series against the Blue Jackets this year and overall averages 1.37 points per-game in his career against his former team with three goals and eight points in 11 games… Voracek did not record a point in the last Flyers game, but has not gone two consecutive games without a point yet this season… He is tied for third (PIT: Malkin) in the NHL scoring race with 33 points (2pts behind PIT: Crosby & DAL: Seguin) and second overall in assists (24).

Bobrovsky was named the NHL’s second star of the week after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.62 GAA and .952 save percentage in the Blue Jackets three-game winning streak… In that streak he set a Blue Jackets record for most saves in a game with a 52-save effort in a shootout win vs. Florida on Dec. 4… Overall he has an 8-8-1 record with a 2.77 GAA and .917 save percentage, while facing 30 or more shots in 13 of 17 appearances this season… Against the Flyers, Bobrovsky has a 2-1-0 record with a 2.02 GAA and .941 save percentage.
