FIVE THINGS: Flyers at Chicago Blackhawks

After dropping their first two games of the season in regulation, the Flyers have earned points in three straight games, all three going past regulation play, and earning their first win of the season with a third-period comeback at Dallas in their last outing on Saturday… The last time the Flyers had three straight games go past regulation was the 2011-12 season (Jan. 22-31) and the last time they had four straight was Mar. 17-24, 2011…  Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek & Wayne Simmonds each lead the team with seven points each - Giroux has a four-game point streak, while Voracek has scored in all five games on the season… The Blackhawks are unbeaten in regulation this year and their last two games have also gone past regulation play… Chicago leads the NHL in average shots per game (40) and are ranked third in the NHL in allowing the fewest shots per game (23.8).

The Flyers rank second overall in the NHL on the power play at 31.8 percent, going 7-for-22…  Over 41 percent of the Flyers goals this year have been scored on the power play (7-of-17)… They have scored a power-play goal in each of their last four games, including two PPG in three of those four games… The Flyers have had 10 power plays in the second period, which is tied for second in the NHL… Chicago has the 19th ranked power-play in the League, going 3-for-21 at 14.3 percent, but on the penalty kill they lead the NHL with two shorthanded goals… The Flyers and Blackhawks are the two least penalized teams in the NHL (PHI: 7.0 per game; CHI: 8.0 per game).

The last time these two teams met, Claude Giroux scored on a last second rush up the ice in overtime for a 3-2 win at the Wells Fargo Center… The Flyers went 1-0-1 against Chicago last year… Tonight is just the fifth meeting at Chicago in the last 11 seasons… Corey Crawford has started all four games for Chicago this season, posting a 1.66 GAA and .926 sv pct… Brad Richards has 43 career points (11g-32a) in 45 career games against the Flyers… Claude Giroux has nine assists and 10 points in just six career games against the Blackhawks… The Flyers have allowed the first goal in four of their first five games, while Chicago has scored the first goal in three of their first four games… The Blackhawks have not scored a goal in the second period, scoring all 10 of their goals in the first and third period and they have not allowed a goal in the third period so far this season.


Voracek comes into tonight’s game with his five-game point streak on the line… He has two goals, both of which have come in his last two games, and five assists to tie for the team lead in scoring with seven points… It is the hottest start to his NHL career by far - his previous high was three points in his first five games, on three occasions, most recently in 2011-12… Five of his seven points this year have come at even strength… Voracek comes into tonight’s game two points shy of 300 in the NHL… Against Chicago, Voracek has 15 points (5g-10a) in 21 career games.

The former Flyer has four points (2g-2a) in four games so far this year… Both of his goals have come on the power play and three of his four points have come on the man advantage… In eight career games against the Flyers, Sharp has six points (2g-4a), including last year when he posted four points (1g-3a) in two games… In his 12th NHL season, 10th with Chicago, Sharp has played in 681 games and is approaching 500 points (487) in the NHL, while also posting a career plus-minus rating of +88.
