FIVE THINGS: Flyers at Arizona Coyotes

T he Flyers play the fifth of their season-high, eight-game road trip and are the furthest point out west against the Coyotes… They are 3-1-0, suffering their first loss in Nashville, 4-1… Although they’ve dropped seven of their last 10 games, the Coyotes have won two straight, keeping their opponent to just one goal… The Coyotes are 2-0-1 in their last three games at home, all three of which have gone past regulation play… After going eight straight games scoring at least one power-play goal (Nov.29-Dec.18), the Flyers haven’t scored on the man advantage in their last five games, going 0-for-13, while Arizona has scored just once on the power play in their last five games, going 1-for-14… The Coyotes also own the NHL’s worst penalty-kill on home ice at 73.1%. .

T his is the first game against the Arizona Coyotes after the team changed their name on June 27 at this year’s NHL Draft in Philly… It’s the first of two meetings within a month span (Jan. 27 at PHI)… Last season, the Flyers split the season series, winning in Phoenix, but losing on home ice… Jakub Voracek led the Flyers with a goal and assist, while Mikkel Boedker also had a goal and assist in the season series last year - he has six points (3g-3a) in six career games against the Flyers, while teammate Martin Erat has 13 points (5g-8a) in 13 games against Philly… The Flyers have won three of their last five meetings, including their last two, at Arizona .

T he Flyers own a 3-1-2 mark against teams from the Pacific Division, while the Coyotes have a 1-2-1 mark against the Metropolitan with three of their four games being decided by one goal… The Flyers are 13-4-3 in games in which they have scored more than two goals, including 6-0-1 in their last seven… Jakub Voracek holds a four point lead in the NHL’s scoring race with 46 points in 35 games - he has posted four multi-point games in his last seven contests… Coyotes defenseman Connor Murphy is the son of Flyers assistant coach Gord Murphy - Connor has two assists in one career game against the Flyers… Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett recently coached in his 900th NHL game, 30th all-time in NHL - he concluded his NHL playing career with PHI, recording 15 points (4g-11a) in 73 games with the Flyers in 1993-94 .

The Flyers captain has points in four-straight games, posting four goals and seven points in that span… He also has a seven-game road point streak dating back to Dec. 3 at ANH in which he has five goals and five assists… The last five games in which Giroux has scored a goal have all come on the road, including all of his goals in the month of December… He has points in 10 of his last 11 games and 27 of 35 games overall this season… He is tied for third overall in the NHL in scoring with 42 points and tied for second in assists (30)… Against the Coyotes, Giroux has three goals and five points in six games.

The defenseman from Boston, Mass. leads Arizona in scoring with 19 assists and 23 points in 35 games… He is one of four defensemen in the NHL to lead his team in scoring… Of his 23 points, 14 have come on the team’s power play, which ranks 3rd among all NHL defensemen… Yandle has appeared in 420 consecutive games, which is the 3rd longest active streak in the NHL today… He has recorded 20+ minutes of ice-time in 34 of 35 games this season, and has logged over 25 minutes in 16 games so far this season… Against the Flyers, Yandle has five points (2g-3a) in eight games… He scored his 1st NHL goal on Dec. 18, 2007 at the Philly.
