Evers Honored for 2,000th Game

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

The year was 1982. Ronald Reagan was the 40th president of the United States, "Ghandi" won the Academy Award for Best Picture and "Rosanna" was the #1 song of the year by the musical group Toto. It was also the year that Jim "Turk" Evers joined the Flyers equipment training staff.

After 23 seasons, "Turk" is still going strong with no signs of slowing down. Recently, Flyers General Manager Bob Clarke presented Evers with a Tiffany's crystal commemorating Evers reaching an NHL milestone of working his 2000th NHL game.

Prior to joining the Flyers, Evers served as the assistant equipment manager for the Flyers' AHL affiliate, the Maine Mariners, from 1977-81. He started his career as a stickboy for the Philadelphia Firebirds of the North American Hockey League and has never looked back.

Jim and his wife, Sherri, live in Magnolia, NJ, along with their son, James Jr.
