The American Hockey League announced today that Lehigh Valley Phantoms center Nick Cousins has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Mar. 15, 2015.
Cousins posted four goals and six points in three games, all on the road, this past week for the Phantoms, including a game-winning goal on a penalty shot (video below) to help Lehigh Valley to a 4-3 win at Toronto over the Marlies.
Following Saturday’s win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in which he had a goal and assisted on the game-winner, Cousins earned his first recall to the Flyers and joined the team in Ottawa, but did not play. He remains with the team on their swing through western Canada.
This is the second AHL honor for Cousins, who was previously named CCM/AHL Player of the Month for January 2015 after posting seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 13 games, which led all players in the AHL during the month.
Overall, Cousins leads the Flyers AHL affiliate in Allentown in goals (21), assists (34) and 55 points, which is also tied for fifth among all AHL players through 60 games, and are all new career-highs.
In parts of four seasons with the Phantoms, but only second full season, Cousins has 32 goals and 53 assists for 85 points in 142 career AHL games since debuting as an 18-year-old in 2012. He was originally drafted by the Flyers in the third round (68th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
In recognition of his achievement, Cousins will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Phantoms home game.
