Comcast-Spectacor is partnering with the Tri-State Toyota Dealers to collect non-perishable food items during the fifth annual Toyota Tundra Food Drive in support of local hunger relief organization, Philabundance. Comcast-Spectacor will be collecting these items at the Wells Fargo Center from Thursday, December 8 through Saturday, December 17.
The food collection efforts will culminate on Thursday, December 15 at the Philabundance Hunger Relief Center (3616 S. Galloway St. Philadelphia) where a convoy of over 30 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks led by Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association President Paul Muller and Philadelphia Flyers legend Bob “The Hound” Kelly, will arrive at 10 a.m. to unload the collected non-perishable food items.
The Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association is comprised of 25 local, Delaware Valley Toyota dealerships, who in partnership with the Philadelphia Flyers, 76ers, Phillies and Union have collected over 42,000 pounds of non-perishable food for Philabundance in the previous four years of the Toyota Tundra Food Drives.
“If it matters in the community, it’s important to Comcast-Spectacor,” said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko. “We are happy to be joining the Tri-State Toyota Dealers in encouraging our fans to help those in need who by helping to donate non-perishable food items which hopefully will enable everyone in our community to have a happy holiday.”
“This event started four years ago as a way for the Tri-State Toyota Dealers to give back to the community and support a most important cause. Through our fantastic partners, the Tundra Food Drive has grown every year and we are very excited to have the Flyers and the Wells Fargo Center really step up their efforts to help us fight hunger in the Delaware Valley” Said Paul Muller. “Between the 25 dealerships in the Tri-State TDA and with the support of our partners, the goal is to collect over 20,000 lbs. of food in 2011 for Philabundance.”
In addition to Comcast-Spectacor, the Tri-State Toyota Dealers will be joined by Pennypack Farm, Comcast Sportsnet, the Philadelphia Phillies, 76ers and Union who will all be providing food donations and support for the Toyota Tundra Food Drive. Philabundance President Bill Clark and Philadelphia Phillies mascot “The Phanatic” will also be on hand to greet and help unload the convoy as it arrives at Philabundance.
When asked about the Fifth Annual Toyota Tundra Food Drive, Philabundance President Bill Clark acknowledged that “Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association and the Flyers are the kind of partners that are really making a difference for those in need of food,” said Bill Clark, president and executive director of Philabundance. “We have seen a 26 percent increase in need over the last year and now more than ever we need the communities support. The support from the Toyota Tundra food drive not only collects the thousands of pounds needed to help provide meals for those in need every year but it brings the issue of hunger top of mind for many of our neighbors.”
