(Philadelphia, PA) - In order to make sure his groin is completely healed before he returns to the Flyers, center Danny Briere will play two games with the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms this week, according to club general manager Paul Holmgren.

"We are doing this just to make sure everything is okay with Danny," said Holmgren. "This will give him the opportunity to play in some games prior to re-joining the Flyers. He will play two games with the Phantoms on Wednesday and Friday. He was absolutely receptive to this.”

"I'm just excited to get back and playing some games," said Briere, after skating with the Flyers on Tuesday morning at the Wachovia Center. "[I'll] test it out and see where I stand."

The Phantoms host the Worcester Sharks on Wednesday, January 14 and the Lowell Devils on Friday, January 16. Face-off for both games is at 7:05 p.m. at the Spectrum.

Briere has played in just nine games with the Flyers this season, recording five goals and four assists. He has missed the last 18 games with a groin strain, and 27 of the last 28 overall.
