1. BUSY TIL THE BYE

The Flyers enter the first of back-to-back games this weekend, taking on the Blue Jackets at Columbus on Sunday… Today's game is also the first of six games in a nine-day span that features four road games and two sets of back-to-backs… The Flyers will then get a full five days off for the NHL mandated "bye" week and resume play on Jan. 21 vs. NJ… The Lightning also play the first of back-to-backs and play three sets of back-to-backs in the next 11 days… The Flyers are 6-2-1 while Tampa is 4-2-0 in the first game.

 

2. HALFWAY HOME

The Flyers play their 41st game of the season today marking the halfway point of 2016-17… Through the first 40 games, the Flyers have 45 points (20-15-5) while last season they had 43 points (18-15-7)… The Flyers scored 90 goals and allowed 105 goals at the 40-game mark last season compared to this year where they have scored 114 goals and allowed 121 goals… Last season at 40 games, the Flyers power-play was at 15.8 percent and penalty kill at 78.7 percent compared to this season at 22.0 percent on the man advantage and 81.0 percent on the PK.

 

3. WHAT IT MEANS

Today's game features two opponents close in the standings in the final wild card position… The Flyers currently sit in the second and final wild card slot with 45 points and 40 games played, while the Lightning have 42 points with 40 games played as well… The Flyers are in the midst of a five-game losing skid, going 0-4-1, and have dropped seven of their last eight games (1-5-2)… The Flyers have not lost two straight games in regulation since Nov. 19 & 25, with their opponents being the Rangers and Lightning… The Lightning have dropped two straight and three of their last four games overall, and on the road, have won just once in their last nine games, going 1-6-2, since late November.

 

4. FINAL MEETING

This is the third and final meeting against the Lightning this season with the Flyers dropping a pair of games on Nov. 19 (3-0) and Nov. 23 (4-2)… The Flyers have not dropped three games in one season to Tampa since 2013-14… The Flyers have out-shot Tampa Bay, 63-47, in the season series, but the Lighting have out-scored the Flyers, 7-2, and recorded four of their seven goals in the third period.

 

5. PLAYERS TO WATCH: 

FLYERS (LW: #93 - Jakub Voracek)

For the second straight game, Voracek is the player to watch after recording two goals in the last game and continues to lead the team in scoring every day since Dec. 9… Voracek also has recorded 27 of his 37 points at home and has a six-game point streak on home ice, recording five goals and eight assists for 13 points in that stretch.

LIGHTNING (C: #9 - Tyler Johnson)

Johnson has five points in his last five games (3g-2a) for Tampa… He also averages over a point per-game against the Flyers with 13 points (4g-9a) in 12 games and has recorded at least a point in every game he has played at the Wells Fargo Center against the Flyers, posting seven points (2g-5a) in five games.

 

TODAY AT 50

On January 7, 1979… Bernie Parent records the 56th and final shutout - combined regular season and playoffs - of his Flyers' career. The Hall of Fame goaltender stops 19 shots in a 3-0 home win over the Los Angeles Kings.

On January 7, 1980… The Flyers' North American professional sports record 35-game unbeaten streak comes to an end. After reeling off 25 wins and 10 ties, the Flyers suffer a 7-1 road blowout loss at the hands of the Minnesota North Stars.
