1. ABOUT TO GET BUSY

Tonight's game kicks off a stretch in which the Flyers play six games in the next nine days with two back-to-back series… For the second straight game the Flyers will take on a road heavy opponent as the Hurricanes play the fifth in a season opening 14-day, six game road trip over Western Canada and back East again… The Hurricanes are one of two teams in which the Flyers will play five times this season (NJ Devils).

 

2. HURRICANE PROOF

The Flyers won three of the four meetings last year against Carolina, with all three victories coming past regulation play and defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere scoring two of those OT winners… Since the team relocated to Raleigh from Hartford, the Flyers own a .694 win percentage (43-15-7-7) including and impressive .736 winning percentage on home ice with just six regulation losses (23-6-3-4) against Carolina.

3. FEELING SPECIAL

The Hurricanes come into tonight in the Top 5 of both the power play at 31.2 percent and penalty kill at 93.8 percent… The Canes have scored five of their 13 total goals on the man-advantage, recording a power-play goal in three of their four games, while also killing off 11 straight penalties over the last three games, including six in their last game, a 4-2 win over Calgary.

A pair of 19-year-old rookies for each team have produced for their team thus far - Hurricanes forward, Sebastian Aho, has points in three of his first four NHL games (3a), while Travis Konecny (4a) also has points in three of his first four NHL games… On the blueline, a pair of '97-borns are playing a key part of their team - Flyers' Ivan Provorov has averaged over 20 minutes of ice-time per-game (20:09), while Noah Hanifin, who is in his second NHL season, has four assists in four games while averaging 15:40 of TOI.

 

5. PLAYERS TO WATCH: 

FLYERS (RW: #24 - Matt Read)

Read has four goals in his last three games to lead the team, and place him in a tie for third overall in the NHL early in the season… Read has twice as many shots on goal this season (14) than he did for the first four games last season (7)… He has the second-most points (5g-9a, 14pts) against the Hurricanes in his career than any other NHL club (19pts, NYI)… Since he entered the NHL in 2011-12, Read has the most shorthanded goals than any other Flyer with six.

HURRICANES (C: #49 - Victor Rask)

Rask has a four-game point streak, producing in every game so far for Carolina, including three goals in those four games… He is tied for the team lead in scoring with five points (3g-2a)… In his 3rd year in the NHL, he posted career highs in points (48), goals (21) and assists (27) last season… Rask's two goals against the Flyers last year are the only two goals he has in his nine career games.

 

TODAY AT 50

On October 22, 1969, Bob Clarke played his fourth NHL game and collected his first point in the NHL by setting up Lew Morrison. Clarke would go on to become the franchise's all-time leader in points scored, 1,210 in 1,144 games played.
