Overview:
Keaton Ellerby is a two-way defenseman and impressive playmaker, and ranked fourth overall on Central Scouting’s list of North American skaters and was the top defenseman on that list. His outstanding mobility and skating ability help him to successfully finish his checks. Standing at over 6’4", he uses his reach effectively and has a talent for handling the puck.

A cousin of Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan, Ellerby has been compared to current NHL defensemen Jay Bouwmeester and Mike Rathje. At the CHL prospects game this year, Ellerby won the hardest shot competition. He attended Team Canada’s selection camp for the 2007 World Juniors, played for Team WHL in the Canada-Russia Challenge in 2006, and helped Team Pacific win a silver medal at the 2007 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge.

Questions regarding Ellerby include his mental approach to the game, as he struggled during Kamloops’ four-games-to-none ouster in this year’s WHL playoffs.

The Flyers say...
"Keaton Ellerby is a big, stay-at-home, puck moving, mobile defenseman. He’s almost 6’5’’, and skates very well for a big man. He’s competitive, can make the first pass, and I think he’s got a chance to be a good, solid NHL defenseman which is the kind of guy that everybody needs."
