Overview:
The top-ranked European goaltender according to Central Scouting was actually draft eligible last year, but not chosen by any of the 30 clubs in seven rounds. It is now likely that Sweden’s Joel Gistedt will be either a late first round or second round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft.

Gistedt essentially came out of nowhere this season, as he unseated former NHL goaltender Tommy Salo from the starting position for Frolunda of the Swedish league. He plays a butterfly style, and is known as a hard worker with quick pads and an impressive glove hand.

Gistedt also represented his country in the 2007 World Junior Championships, posting one win against four losses, a 1.96 goals against average and .912 save percentage.

The Flyers say…
“Joel Gistedt is not very big, but he’s very quick. He really has all of the tools necessary to be a good professional goaltender.”
