Local product David Sloane was born April 6, 1985 in Ambler, PA. With the Flyers riddled with late-season injuries and hamstrung by being at the NHL salary cap season, the Flyers brought Sloane in on a one-game professional tryout on April 9, 2009 and dressed him on defense in the team's game that night against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Used very sparingly, Sloane skated 6:44 of ice time and posted an even plus-minus in the Flyers' 2-1 loss. In the summer of 2009, the Flyers signed Sloane to a one-year AHL contract. He spent parts of the next two seasons in the AHL and ECHL as a depth player.
