U.S. edges Finland in a shootout at WJC evaluation camp

CALGARY, AB -- It took seven rounds but the USA was able to top Finland in the shootout on Thursday at the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, NY.

The 4-3 win gives them a 1-1-0 record. The USA had two rosters up until Tuesday, when they trimmed the number of players down to 31. Prior to the roster cuts, the USA White team had 1-1-0 record while USA Blue went 0-1-1.

Adam Erne scored the deciding goal in the seventh round, giving him his third tally of the day after scoring the equalizer in the third period and potting one in the sixth round of the shootout.

Ian McCoshen and Mike Brodzinski also scored for the Americans while Aleksi Mustonen, Artturi Lehkonen and Mikko Lehtonen scored for Finland.

Calgary Flames prospects Patrick Sieloff and Jon Gillies were among the eight American scratches on Thursday.

The USA will take on Canada on Saturday at 11:00 AM MST.
