FLAMES ACQUIRE HANIFIN, LINDHOLM

Calgary sends Hamilton, Fox, Ferland to Carolina in the deal

The Calgary Flames announced that they have acquired defenceman Noah Hanifin and forward Elias Lindholm from Carolina in exchange for Micheal Ferland, Adam Fox and Dougie Hamilton.

Hanifin, a 21-year-old native of Boston, Massachusetts, was drafted fifth overall by Carolina in the 2015 NHL Draft. In his three seasons with the Hurricanes he has scored 18 goals along with 65 assists for 83 points in 239 games and led all blue-liners on his team last season with 10 goals and 22 assists.

Lindholm, a 23-year-old native of Boden, Sweden, was drafted fifth overall by Carolina in the 2013 NHL Draft. In his five seasons with the Hurricanes he has netted 64 goals and added 124 assists for 188 points in 374 games. Last season he potted 16 goals and 28 assists for 44 points in 81 games.

FLAMES SIGN EHLIZ, HOGSTROM

Calgary has signed both players to two-way contracts

The Calgary Flames announced today the signing of German forward Yasin Ehliz and Swedish defenceman Marcus Hogstrom both to two-way contracts.

Ehliz, a native of Bad Tolz, Germany played last season as a member of the Nuermberg Ice Tigers of the Deutsche Eishhockey Liga (DEL) in Germany. The 25-year-old notched ten goals and 21 assists for 31 points in 46 games. Ehliz also represented Germany in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games where he notched three points in seven games and suited up for Germany at the 2018 World Championships this past May where he recorded three goals and two assists for five points in seven games.

Hogstrom, a native of Sveg, Sweden skated for Djurgardens IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) last season where he posted three goals and 20 assists for 23 points in 50 games. The 29-year-old has 19 goals and 68 assists for 87 points in 207 games in the SHL split between Djurgardens IF, Timra IK, and Skelleftea AIK.

CAIL MACLEAN NAMED STOCKTON HEAD COACH

The remaining Stockton coaching staff will be announced in the coming weeks

The Stockton Heat, Calgary's American Hockey League affiliate, announced today that Cail MacLean will take over the head coaching reigns after serving as the assistant coach last season. The remaining Stockton coaching staff will be announced in the coming weeks.

MacLean, a native of Middleton, Nova Scotia, started his coaching career at the conclusion of his playing career in the ECHL with South Carolina and won the Kelly Cup as the Stingrays assistant coach in 2008-09. He was then promoted to head coach for the 2009-10 season and spent two years as the Stingrays bench boss before joining the Flames AHL affiliate Abbotsford Heat as an assistant coach between 2011-13. He became the head coach for the Flames ECHL affiliate in Adirondack for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons before returning to the AHL as the Stockton Heat assistant coach last season.

The 41-year-old had a 15-year playing career that started in 1993 with the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs where he spent the following four seasons. He went on to play 747 professional games spanning 11 years between the AHL, IHL and ECHL highlighted with a trip to the ECHL Kelly Cup finals in 2000-01 where he captained the Trenton Titans.

WARD, HUSKA NAMED TO COACHING STAFF

Geoff Ward and Ryan Huska will join Bill Peters behind the bench

The Calgary Flames announced today that Geoff Ward and Ryan Huska will join Bill Peters' staff to work alongside existing coaches Martin Gelinas, Jamie Pringle and Jordan Sigalet.

Geoff Ward joins the Flames after spending the past three seasons with the New Jersey Devils, as their assistant coach, while Ryan Huska joins the Flames staff after serving as the head coach in Stockton for three seasons and one in Adirondack, Calgary's AHL affiliate.

Ward, a native of Waterloo, Ontario, brings a decade of NHL coaching experience to the Flames. Prior to the last three years with New Jersey, he served as the Boston Bruins assistant coach for seven seasons including winning the Stanley Cup in 2011 and another finals appearance in 2013.

FLAMES NAME BILL PETERS HEAD COACH

Peters is the franchise's 19th head coach

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have named Bill Peters as the franchise's 19th head coach. Peters joins the Flames after spending the past four seasons as the head coach with the Carolina Hurricanes.

A native of Three Hills, Alberta, Peters brings 21 years of coaching experience to the club. Prior to serving the Hurricanes, the 53-year-old was an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings from 2011-12 through the 2013-14 season. Before that, he led the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs for three campaigns from 2008-09 and 2010-11. 

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League for the 1999-00 season through to 2001-02. He accepted his first head coaching job when he took over at the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns for three seasons starting in 2002-03. After that, he went back to Spokane as the Chiefs head coach in 2005-06. In 2007-08, he guided Spokane to an Ed Chynoweth Cup WHL championship and a Memorial Cup championship.

Peters played college hockey in Alberta for two seasons at Augustana and one for the Red Deer College Kings where they won the 1989 ACAC championship. 

Peters has an extensive international coaching resume. He was recently named as the head coach for Canada's National team competing at the 2018 IIHF World Championship starting in May. He was an assistant coach with Canada's Championship team at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. He also captured a gold medal as head coach of Canada's National team at the 2016 IIHF World Championship and also won a gold medal as an assistant coach in 2015. He has also won a gold medal at the 2008 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament, where he was head coach of Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 team, and a silver medal as an assistant coach with Team Pacific at the 2005 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. 

Bill and his wife Denise, have two children: Aleze and Ayden.

FLAMES ASSIGN THREE PLAYERS TO STOCKTON

Rasmus Andersson, Jon Gillies and Spencer Foo will join the Heat

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned forward Spencer Foo, defenceman Rasmus Andersson, and goaltender Jon Gillies to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League

Foo, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, skated in four games for the Flames this season scoring two goals including his first career NHL goal on April 5th in Winnipeg. Foo is having a sensational year in Stockton where he has 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in 59 games in his first professional season.

Andersson, a native of Malmo, Sweden, has seen action in ten games for the Flames this season. The AHL All-Star has been very impressive in his second professional season with eight goals and 30 assists for 38 points with the Stockton Heat this season.

Gillies, a native of Concord, New Hampshire, has played in 11 games between the pipes for the Flames this season. The 24-year-old sports a 3-5-1 record with a 2.88 GAA and 0.896 SV% for the Flames this season. Gillies has seen action in 36 games in Stockton this year sporting a 15-15-3 record with a 2.54 GAA and a .916 SV%.

The defenceman's emergency recall has been terminated

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have terminated the emergency recall on defenceman Oliver Kylington and have reassigned him to Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

Kylington, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, just completed his third full season with the Stockton Heat where he netted five goals and added 26 assists for 31 points in 56 games. He has played one NHL game for the Flames during the 2015-16 season.

FLAMES ASSIGN DILLON DUBE TO STOCKTON HEAT

D'Artagnan Joly has also joined the Heat on an ATO

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned forward Dillon Dube to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League. Stockton has also signed forward D'Artagnan Joly to an ATO.  

Dube, a native of Cochrane, Alberta, was drafted by the Flames in the second round, 56th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft. The 19-year-old had career-highs in goals with 38, assists with 46, and points with 84 for the Kelowna Rockets this season. Dube also captained the 2018 Canadian World Junior team this past December and January where he had two goals and two assists for four points in six games and took home a gold medal. Dube appeared in one playoff game last season for the Heat.

Joly, a native of Gatineau, QC, was drafted by the Flames in the sixth round, 171st overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old had his best junior season of his career with career-highs in goals with 23, assists with 45, and points with 68 in 55 games. Joly finished the season second on the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the QMJHL in scoring with his 68 points and led the team in assists.

FLAMES RECALL SPENCER FOO FROM STOCKTON

The forward has 20 goals in his first season with the Heat

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have recalled forward Spencer Foo from the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

Foo, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, was signed by the Calgary Flames this past off-season as a college free agent on Jul. 27, 2017. The Union College product is having a strong first professional season with the Stockton Heat notching 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in 59 games. Foo is third on the Heat in scoring and second in goals, just one behind Andrew Mangiapane (21). The 23-year-old scored his first professional hat trick on December 6, 2017 in a 6-0 routing of the San Jose Barracuda.
