by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

Calgary, AB - For the next two days, the Scotiabank Saddledome will welcome local teams to take centre stage on the big ice. Sport Chek, in partnership with the Calgary Flames and Calgary Hitmen, will be offering minor hockey leagues an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as their typical weekend hockey schedules will be re-located to the Saddledome.

“There are no hockey fans more passionate than Calgarians. We see this with the Flames, Hitmen and at all levels of our game,” said Flames Vice President of Sales Rollie Cyr. “The Big League Experience combined with a skills camp is a perfect way to honour this passion, give back to the hockey community and continue to make the Saddledome, the hockey hub of our City.”

Saturday’s schedule will run from 8 a.m. – 7:45 p.m., with the Flames Big League Experience. Spotlighted player introductions, the energy board, big screen and in-game announcers will bring the feeling of a professional game into each of the eight games. On Sunday, kids will “Train Like a Pro” as instructors from the Flames Hockey School will be joined by Flames coaches Bob Hartley, Martin Gelinas, Jacques Cloutier, Clint Malarchuk and Jamie Pringle as they help kids of all ages better their hockey skills.

“With the 6 a.m. practices and the hours spent practicing in the driveway, kids always dream of being the next big NHL star,” said Frederick Lecoq, VP Marketing, FGL Sports Ltd. “This desire to work towards their better is exactly what Sport Chek and its Team Assist program embody and this weekend is a way to bring these kids closer than ever to that dream.”

The event is free to the general public for viewing over the two days, with concessions open. Parking will be available in Lot A and patrons can enter the Saddledome through the Special Access gate above the Avison Young Club entrance.
