The Quote Sheet

by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames met as a group at the Pengrowth Saddledome for the last time this season on Wednesday. They held exit interviews with coaches, received their off-season workout packages and spent time with media discussing the disappointment of a season without a post-season.

Below is a synopsis of their quotes.

Iginla JAROME IGINLA

"We had a lot of goal-scoring issues this season. We're at the bottom of the league in scoring. It's not a few goals here and there. We weren't good enough. There will always be changes. But I think we have a lot of good pieces. I believe we could use some more offensive help to get us to having years that we should have."

"I want to be here, not just because it is comfortable. I want to win. There are only so many years and the years go by fast. I want to be part of this team winning, That's what it is about at this point in my career."
Conroy CRAIG CONROY

"It's a been a tough week for (president Ken King and GM Darryl Sutter), too. But we didn't make the playoffs so everyone is under the gun. There's lots going on in the organization right now. I am not at all concerned about my personal situation right now."
JAY BOUWMEESTER

"It's never any fun. You play all 82 games to get into a spot where you're able to play in the playoffs. When you're on the outside looking in, it's never any fun."

"I think you can go through the lineup, personally and as a team, there were a lot of ups and downs and there were some good stretches and some bad stretches. In some ways, individually, I think it kind of reflected how the team went. At the end of the day we're sitting here with no more hockey left to play. I don't think anyone can be too satisfied with how their season went."
STEVE STAIOS

"It's really tough. You see the excitement starting to build for the playoffs and the playoff series and that's what it's all about. It was disappointing when we didn't get in and it just gets more disappointing and harder to take as they're ramping up."

"I think we're closer (to making the postseason) than most people realize. I think we have a very good team and I'm excited and optimistic about next season."
ROBYN REGEHR

"I look at Vancouver: a couple years ago ... I think it was three years ago that they missed the playoffs by two or four points. They've come back and bounced back and won the division a couple years in a row so I think we're in a similar position."

"I do think that we're close (to making the playoffs)."

"I think we had a lot better team atmosphere after we made some personnel moves and brought in some different guys. Whether that was just guys were getting a little bit ... just wasn't working out here or things were just kind of plateauing for whatever reason, there were changes made and we were in the middle of a real bad stretch and I think the feeling around the dressing room with our team was much better after that."
BRENT SUTTER

"This is a terrible feeling to have and you certainly don't want to have it again. We are all responsible."

On a potential riff between he and Jarome Iginla....
"There's no merit to it. It's been a laughing matter. It's been speculation and that's all it is. I will leave it at that. The relationship between the players and the coaching staff have been very good."
IAN WHITE

"We've got a great team here, a great organization and to be a part of it is something special. I'd love to be back here."

"I think we have all the elements (to be a contender). We have great goaltending, great defense and a lot of depth up front so it's a shame that we didn't get in this year because we do have some really good talent in that locker room."
MARK GIORDANO

On playing for Canada in the IIHF World Championships
"I was asked to go so I'm pretty excited about that. I'll be heading over there in a couple weeks."

"It's a good opportunity for me. It's a big tournament and I'm just looking forward to going there and playing well and helping the team."
RENE BOURQUE

On playing for Canada in the IIHF World Championships
"I've never played for Canada in anything before so if  I get the opportunity, I'd do it in a heartbeat."

"We win three more games and we're in so we're not that far off. It's not the end of the world. I think we're maybe a couple of pieces away from being a really good team again."
