by Staff Writer / Calgary Flames

CALGARY, AB – August 19, 2014: The Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta presents “The Beat Goes on Gala”. This unique fundraising gala is being presented to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of The Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta and recognise the amazing work they do. Scheduled for September 13th, 2014 in the Palomino Room at the BMO Centre – Stampede Park; this gala will be highlighted with a concert performance by Juno Award winning artists Chantal Kreviazuk and Our Lady Peace lead vocalist Raine Maida. “The Beat Goes on Gala” will also feature a creative menu prepared by Top Chef Canada participant Pierre Lamielle.

“The Libin Cardiovascular Institute is a testament to the intellectual and philanthropic spirit that so wonderfully defines our city,” says Ken King, President of the Calgary Flames and gala co-Chair. “The Calgary Flames are honoured to play a role as the signature sponsor of this event and support this noble institute.”

The Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta coordinates cardiovascular science research, education and patient care as an entity of both Alberta Health Services (Calgary) and the University of Calgary. Over the last decade, the Institute has garnered immense support from the community.

“As a patient, I witnessed first-hand the unconditional care, dedication, and commitment from the Libin Institute. This is an outstanding group of individuals who have changed the way heart disease is seen in Alberta,” says Tony Dilawri, partner with the Dilawri Group of Company and gala co-Chair. “The question is why didn't I get involved sooner? This event is my small way of helping.”

Funds raised by the Gala will provide important resources for the completion of a Cardiac Hybrid Operating Room in Calgary and the recruitment of outstanding cardiovascular clinician-scientists to the Libin Institute. The state-of-the-art operating room will offer leading edge care to patients with a wide range of cardiac conditions and will help save lives in southern Alberta.

“We are very excited about our inaugural fundraising event because it brings together our members with donors and the public. It helps raise awareness about the tremendous work the Libin Institute does, from basic science research to training of tomorrow’s doctors and researchers” says Dr. Todd Anderson, Institute Director. “The tremendous generosity of donors has helped Libin deliver world-class care to southern Albertans not only over the past ten years. With their support our work will continue in years to come.”
