The Wild, who started the game by outshooting the Flames 6-1, looked particularly helpless in the final five minutes of the first stanza as the hosts set up shop in the offensive zone and went to work with a relentless cycle.

The youngster was able to cash in on a Stempniak rebound at 2:02 of the third period and open the scoring with his first NHL marker.

Flames captain Jarome Iginla
notched his 500th goal at 8:33 of the third period when his centering attempt hit Mikko Koivu's skate and into the back of the net. The winger was joined on the ice by his entire team as he skated back to the bench to celebrate and the boistrous crowd at the Saddledome let loose with "Iggy! Iggy!" chants for the rest of the game.
