January 14th, 2012 - Flames vs. Kings: #93 Michael Cammalleri



1st Period

Opening shift
20:00 - 19:32 (0:28)
After breaking through the crowd on the opening draw, Cammalleri was his feisty self
giving Dustin Penner a shot. He skated through the neutral zone and gave Penner one
more shot before changing.

15:57 - 15:06 (0:51)
Cammalleri was called for a high stick after knocking the puck down. Mucked it up with Jarret Stoll. Moved the puck with a nice saucer pass into the neutral zone on
the breakout to Lee Stempniak before changing.

After the Flames killed a penalty he found himself on the ice with Jokinen and Iginla. Breaking down center with Jokinen, he took a centering pass off of his skates and carried the puck to the cheers of the crowd. He was given a rough ride by a Kings defencemen and was knocked down as he dumped the puck in and changed.

After listening to the C of Red go crazy to a Michael Cammalleri tribute video to the tune of "Coming Home" by Skylar Grey, he out-muscled Slava Voynov to gain control of the puck in the corner and carried the puck around the net. He then snapped it off the goalie to create a minor scoring opportunity.

6:22-5:39 (1:03) (PowerPlay)
Lining up on the powerplay with Colin Fraser being called on a hooking minor, he won the draw and then lined up on his off-wing. he found the puck and sent a hard pass across to Jarome Iginla who was denied by Quick. Cammalleri the face-off again and lurked on the right side of the ice. After receiving a pass didn't have a lot to look at as the Kings were playing a tight box. He tried to find Bouwmeester on the far point but out the puck on Kopitar's stick, who iced it. He then changed.

Cammalleri tried to saucer a pass to Backlund but it ended up on the stick of Jarret Stoll. Trying to make up for it he blocked Stoll's clearing attempt to keep the puck in play. It wound up on the stick of Mikael Backlund who fired a shot which redirected off the goal post for the Flames best scoring chance of the period.

0:20 - 0:00 (0:20)
Cammellari came on with only 20 second remaining in the period to see the Flames
charged for an icing call and finish the period.

Cammalleri intercepted a clearing pass by Drew Doughty to keep the puck in the Kings zone. The puck was then moved out when mark Giordano fumbled the puck and Mike Richards skated by him to take it in all alone and slide puck puck between Kipruosff's legs.

Cammalleri skated through the circle on the draw to the left of the Flames net to grab the puck and start moving around the back of his own net. Mike Richards gave him some trouble and the puck would up back on the blueline where Matt Greene sent a hard wrist shot into the side of the net past a screened Kiprusoff.

The Flames put some pressure on the Kings on this shift. Backlund grabbed the puck off the wall near the outside hash marks and dropped a pass in the high slot where Cammalleri one-timed a shot which Jonathan Quick stopped with his right shoulder, The Kings gobbled up the rebound and Cammalleri changed.

Cammalleri took a holding callwhen he grabbed a Kings player who was charging into the Flames zone chasing down a loose puck.

7:40 - 6:36 (1:04)
Exiting the penalty box to a Flames powerplay, Cammalleri took a pass acrosse the blueline and neatly spun around to drop it to Jarome Iginla who was stopped by Quick. Later in the shift Jay Bouwmeester had a wide open shot from the point with Cammalleri parked at the side of the goal. Quick would redirect the shot into the opposite corner.

GOAL! Cammelleri parked in front of the Kings goal tips an Anton Babchuk point shot to register his 10th marker of the season and cut the Kings lead to two.

Cammalleri jumped on the ice with only a half-minute to play in the frame and finished out the period. An un-eventfull shift.

Cammalleri took the faceoff with Backlund and iginla and changed after a high-stick call.

Cammalleri gobbled up a loose puck behind the Kings goal and circled around the net to take a shot which Quick stopped with his chest.

Shift #17

In one of his longestshift of the contest, Cammalleri spent most of his time on hovering around centre ice. A small amount of sustained pressure by the Flames resulted in a shot of goal by the club. Mark Giordano ends the shift by taking a tripping infraction.

Being moved to the top unit with Iginla and Jokinen after Curtis Glencross just killed most of Giordano's minor, the Flames generated a few chances.  Cammalleri had a few touches but couldn't get much going.

Shift #19

Starting to show signs of fatigue, Cammalleri laboured through his shift jumping in on a few goal-mouth scrambles. Ending his shift with a cross-check to the back courtesy of Wille Mitchell he made his way to the bench.

Shift  #20 5:37 -4:40 (1:03)
The Flames again pressed with Cammalleri lining up with iginla and Backlund. Sutter obviously trying rekindle some old chemestry between the two as time is running out. Cammalleri skates off without a scoring chance.

Shift #21 2:18 - 2:00 (0:18)
A short last shift which saw cammalleri chase a lose puck on the forecheck and then retreat for a change.
