CALGARY, AB -- The Finance Cup is getting a facelift.
Evolving from a one-off game between both the Finance and Sales departments, the spectacle has grown into a three-team round robin before adding a fourth team to the fold in 2013.
As such, the format of the tournament has changed, as has the name.
"Due to the popular demand for this event, and quite frankly due to concerns expressed about the potential for '5-on-5 brawling' if it were simply Finance vs. Sales (as witnessed [Sunday] in the game between Ottawa and Montreal), changes will be made to the format along with the name," vice president of sales Rollie Cyr announced in a press release.
The event, featuring staff from all departments spanning four organizations, has been rebranded as the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Group Hockey Championship.
"After some serious soul searching and arm twisting, the Finance Cup management group has determined that a name change would be appropriate," Cyr added.
Staff from the Calgary Flames, Calgary Hitmen, Calgary Stampeders and Calgary Roughnecks are eligible to participate in the event, designed as a season wrap-up.
"The absolute best part of this is now that the entire organization gets so involved with it," Cyr said.
