Tanguay will direct $200.00, or a minimum donation of $10,000, for every assist he records during the 2010-2011regular season to the national cancer organization’s Alberta/NWT division.
“I am thrilled to fundraise for this organization,” says Flames forward Alex Tanguay. “My family has had a personal experience with stomach cancer and to be able to team up with the Canadian Cancer Society to fundraise for this is important to me as well as my wife and kids.”
Tanguay and his wife, Helene, will also be involved in the organization’s fundraising event and through volunteer opportunities.
“Stomach cancer is one that doesn’t get a high level of attention so any awareness we can generate is very beneficial in the fight against cancer,” says Tiffany Kraus, marketing and communications manager with the Society. “We are very grateful to Alex and his family for joining us in this fight.”
Nearly 3,000 Canadian will be diagnosed with stomach cancer this year. Although incidence rates are declining, survival rates are relatively low.
