WeakSideStrong

Two years after creating the successful #TrickShot4Snowy Challenge, the Snow family has come up with another creative, fun way to raise awareness and funds for ALS research and treatment.
The #WeakSideStrong Challenge is simple: challenge yourself to do a task with your opposite hand, arm, leg, or foot.
"ALS is a neurological condition that causes the death of nerve cells in the brain and spinal column and with that the progressive loss of use of all parts of the body. We're encouraging others to imagine what that might be like and help raise some money to fight it," states the #WeakSideStrong website, run by the Snow family. "Start by doing something you love but with your opposite hand or foot. It could be as simple as shooting a jump shot or writing your name. Or you could make up something totally unique to you. Video or photograph yourself doing it, post it to social media using the hashtag #weaksidestrong, and tag some friends, challenging them to do the same. Then, give what you can to help find answers and develop new treatments to ultimately end ALS."

The challenge has been making its way across social media, with several professional athletes jumping in. Matthew Tkachuk took on the challenge, trying to make a pool shot with his opposite arm, and CSEC staff also joined in, playing mini-games with the opposite stick.

The #WeakSideStrong Challenge builds off of the #TrickShot4Snowy Challenge from 2020, which asked people to show off their best trick shot on social media and donate to ALS research. The movement began after Snow, assistant general manager of the Flames, was diagnosed with ALS in June of 2019. Since that diagnosis, the Snow family has dedicated themselves to fighting ALS, raising awareness and funds for research and treatment. Snow has pursued an experimental new therapy that slowed the disease, a clinical trial for an encouraging ALS gene therapy treatment that targets a specific genetic mutation.
