CALGARY, AB -- The second annual Glencross Invitational Charity Roughstock Event Presented by the Calgary Flames and PennWest Exploration takes place this Friday, August 23rd. All proceeds will be directed to the Ronald McDonald House in Red Deer and minor hockey programming in Alberta through the Hockey Alberta Foundation. Last year’s event raised $196,000 for these two charities.
The rodeo will take place in Innisfail, Alberta at the Daines Rodeo Grounds on Friday, August 23rd and feature bull, bronc and bareback riding with some of North America’s most accomplished riders. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with events starting at 5:30 p.m. Following the rodeo event, entertainment from country artists will take place in the concert gardens.
“Last year we could not believe the support we received from sponsors from all over,” said Glencross. “Myself and our committee were so proud and humbled to have raised $196,000! It was more than we could have hoped for and again I cannot thank our supporters, celebrities and riders enough.”
Prior to the rodeo, a poker tournament will be held in Red Deer for event sponsors. Glencross spearheaded the idea for the event and leads a planning committee and event sales.
“All proceeds are directed to the Ronald McDonald House in Red Deer and the Hockey Alberta Foundation in support of minor hockey programs in Alberta. I grew up playing the game that I love in the province that I love. However, there are many families who do not have the opportunity to play hockey. Through Hockey Alberta and fundraising efforts like tonight and tomorrow, we can help to eliminate barriers that restrict youth in playing the game,” said Glencross. “The Ronald McDonald House is a place that my wife Tanya and I have always supported along with our young family. It is a place we are deeply moved by and support along with the many sponsors and supporters of this event. We are again proud to be directing funds to this special place.”
Minor hockey support will be directed through the Every Kid Every Community program through the Hockey Alberta Foundation. The program fulfils grants for kids to play hockey all around Alberta.
Ronald McDonald House® Central Alberta is prominently located facing the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and backing on to Gaetz Avenue. One third or 11,000 of those children are from out-of-town. That’s an average of 30 out-of-town children per day. Ronald McDonald House® Central Alberta supports sick children and their families from rural communities surrounding Red Deer.
