MIKAEL BACKLUND ON SCORING SHOOTOUT WINNER:

ON HOW THE GAME PLAYED OUT:

"I thought we had more chances. It's a fun game to play, 3-on-3, and we don't focus on the record. We just go out and try to win. You could tell today guys were trying to score and we had the puck most of the time. It was a big win for us to get the extra point."

ON MILAN LUCIC'S BIG GOAL:

"It was a big goal for us. ... We all love to see Looch five-hole goals. The 'Power Five.'"

THE 'POWER FIVE'? LUCIC EXPLAINS…

"I was in that spot - a good scoring area, so I just shot it as hard as I could along the ice, between the legs, like I have before and it went in again."

ON IF HE WAS EXPECTING A SHOT IN THE SHOOTOUT:

"I think I'm around the 12, 13 slot. You know what, on breakaways I'm pretty good. But for whatever reason, I'm not very good in shootouts. So yeah, I get excited around the 12, 13 mark."

"Everything's a lot more fun when you're winning"

LUCIC ON SWEEPING SEASON SERIES:

"We talked about it this morning that they had 45 shots the last time we played them. We played a little too loose in Pittsburgh and we got away with one. Today, puck possession was better, zone time was better than the last time we played them and we held them to what, 22 shots. That's a good sign that we're able to adjust and zone-in on what our jobs are to give us success in the checking part of the game. You create offence by checking and getting the puck back and having the puck on your stick. That's the thing I think we've grown as a team through 22 games."

DARRYL SUTTER ON LOW-SCORING GAME:

"Two close-checking teams (that) play similar styles. Whoever gets the lead is probably going to persevere in the end."

Head coach with his thoughts on shootout win

ON PRACTICING SHOOTOUTS:

"Yeah, we've worked on it quite a bit as a group. (Goalie coach) Jason Labarbera gives guys good info on goalies and kind of go from there and see who fits best against them."
