SAY WHAT: FIRST-ROUND MATCHUP

A rundown of what was discussed following Saturday's regular-season finale

by RYAN DITTRICK @ryandittrick / CalgaryFlames.com

JOHNNY GAUDREAU FINISHING OFF THE SEASON:

"Obviously we wanted to get the win here. But move on. We have three big practice days coming up and Game 1 on Thursday."

GAUDREAU ON FACING THE AVS IN ROUND 1:

"Obviously both teams have some really offensive players, so you never know I guess, but we're going to try and limit their chances and win games, you know, 2-1, 3-2."

Video: "The fun is just about to start."

TRAVIS HAMONIC ON ROUND 1 MATCHUP:

"Yeah, they're a good team. But we're going to do what we do all year, and that's focus on ourselves and our group. We have a talented group and down the lineup, we have some great depth, we got some stars, and some great goaltending, some great D, some great forwards, so we got a really good team and we're super excited to obviously get going, get started and really get to work."

Video: "It's a fresh sheet for everybody."

BILL PETERS ON PREPARING FOR PLAYOFFS:

"It's going to be a fun matchup, a good matchup. They're playing well and we're looking forward to playing them on Thursday. We're both two teams that can skate and score. We're going to come in tomorrow and get dialled in and start analyzing their game."

PETERS ON REGULAR-SEASON FINALE:

"It was good to get our defense back into the lineup tonight, there was a little rust early but we started moving the puck well as the game went on. By Game 1 we should have all hands on deck. … We're the type of team that has to play with emotion and work ethic to be successful and I think now that the stakes get raised going into the playoffs, you'll see that again."

Video: "You never see want to see anybody get hurt."

PETERS ON GAUDREAU'S 99TH POINT:

"He had good looks; it gives him something to shoot for moving forward. He has had a great year and now all focus goes back onto the team and winning and finding a way to win four out of our next seven games."

MARK GIORDANO ON COLLISION WITH CONNOR MCDAVID:

"I feel terrible. You try to obviously dive and get the puck. You never want to see (someone get hurt) ... He's the best player in the game, so we need him in the game. I honestly thought I could get that puck when I dove for it and watching the replay, I missed it and my stick sort of trips him."

Video: "I hope he's okay. I'll reach out to him."

GIORDANO ON PLAYOFF EXCITEMENT:

"It's good to get the regular season over and crank it up to the next level."
