Calgary, ABReading…Give it a shot!, a reading incentive program designed for grade 4,5 and 6 students, officially launched it’s 11th year Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Calgary Educational Partnership Foundation President and CEO, Doug Clovechok, was joined by Flames players, as well as sponsor representatives from the Calgary Herald, City of Calgary – Office of the Mayor, First Calgary Savings, Relizon and Productive Space, Inc. to kick-off this annual partnership.

The team of Calgary businesses, which also includes the Office of the Mayor, unveiled the Reading…Give it a shot! program in 1997 to students in Calgary and Area School Districts.

Last year, over 19,000 students in 200 schools took part in the program.

"The Reading... Give it a shot! program is an excellent example of how a community can cooperatively direct its resources toward such an important educational need such as literacy," stated Clovechok.

Reading…Give it a shot! Runs from January 18 through March 14, 2007.

Students will receive bookmarks featuring Calgary Flames personalities based upon minutes spent reading.  In increments of 100 minutes reading time, children will receive one of 24 special bookmarks that include an action shot as well as information about the player.

By counting minutes rather than books or pages, each student, regardless of ability, speed or interest, has an equal opportunity to earn all of the bookmarks.
