CALGARY, AB -- Rushan Rafikov and Russia have moved on to the 2015 World Junior Championship semi-finals after defeating the USA 3-2 in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Ivan Barbyashov, Alexander Sharov, and Sergei Tolchinski scored for Russia while Anthony DeAngelo and Zach Werenski netted goals for the USA.
Rafikov and Russia will play in the semi-finals on Jan. 4 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON.
The Flames selected Rafikov in the seventh round (187th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft. He is playing for HK Ryazan in the VHL this season and has 13 assists in 25 games.
