BRANDON, MB -- Rushan Rafikov and Team Russia picked up their second win in as many nights over Team WHL, edging them 3-2 on Tuesday at the Subway Super Series.
Pavel Kraskovsky opened the scoring at 10:07 of the first period with a power play marker and Andrey Alexeev gave the Russians a 2-0 cushion heading into the final frame with a goal at the 9:00 mark of the second period.
Team WHL pushed back in the third stanza with a goal from Joe Hicketts at 3:29. Flames prospect Morgan Klimchuk picked up the primary assist on Hicketts' tally, giving him his first point of the Subway Super Series.
Kraskovsky made it a 3-1 game at 14:01 when he converted on a rebound in front of the net. Rafikov took the initial shot so he picked up his first assist of the tournament.
Conner Bleackley responded with Team WHL's second goal of the night under a minute later but that was all the offence they could muster.
Rafikov, who is serving as his country's captain, and Team Russia will face Team OHL on Thursday in Peterborough, ON. Game time is 5:00 PM MT (Sportsnet ONE, TVA Sports, and Sportsnet 590 The FAN online).
