CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames prospect Rushan Rafikov has been named to Russia's preliminary 38-man World Junior Championship roster.
The blueliner most recently suited for his country during the 2014 Subway Super Series. He acted as captain for Russia and was seventh in scoring with one goal and three points in six games.
Rafikov is currently playing for HK Ryazan in the VHL. He is eighth in team scoring with 11 assists through 22 games.
The Flames drafted Rafikov in the seventh round (187th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
The 2015 World Junior Championship will take place in Toronto and Montreal.
The preliminary round of the tournament starts on Dec. 26 and runs through to Dec. 31 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and Bell Centre in Montreal. The medal round begins on Jan. 2, 2015 and runs until Jan. 5, 2015. The gold-medal game is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2015 in Toronto.
