QUOTABLES - FLAMES VS. RANGERS

A rundown on what was discussed during this morning's media availability

by PAUL MAWDSLEY @pmawdsley23 / CalgaryFlames.com

Glen Gulutzan on the health of Micheal Ferland and Kris Versteeg:

"Ferly is feeling a little bit better, so we'll monitor him today and see how the injury feels after the skate here. Steeger is still a ways off, but he's at the point where he can do some pre-game skates and start to see how he progresses. With some practice, hopefully next week."

Gulutzan on playing with emotion:

"We play good when we're an emotional group. But we're a little too emotional when you look at Arizona, I think it was five and then six penalties in Dallas and six or seven in Colorado. We're starting to lean on our guys a little bit here and they're emotional, but in a good way. They're hungry, but we've got to harness it a little bit better."

Mark Giordano on facing the New York Rangers:

"You look at their line-up, obviously they've made some trades, they have some new guys that are playing with a lot of energy in their lineup. They have a lot of skill up front. So we're going to have to be aware of managing the game again. It seems like you say it every night, but most teams now have that speed ad that skill up front. We've got to try and play in their zone and manage pucks at the blue lines and we'll be fine."

Giordano on getting some crucial points:

"We've got to look at tonight. We've got to win tonight and move on to the road trip, but tonight's a big one. Every time you don't get point, you sit for a day and other teams get points it seems like. We've got to get these two tonight and then move forward. You lose two in a row and it honestly feels like you lose a lot of ground. That's the situation we're in. We had some teams separate themselves in the last couple of days. But in saying that, we're still one point out of the playoff spot that we want to be in. So we've got to get points tonight, move back in and go on from there."

Tanner Glass on his unique glove exchange with Duncan Siemens:

"I mean, we had the same colour gloves. That doesn't happen very often because usually teams have different coloured gloves, but we had the same gloves, same brand and everything, but his were a little bigger than mine."

Glass on facing his former team:

"It's always fun to face a former team for the first time. They made some big changes there recently, some good friends go, but they've still got some friendly faces. But as the old saying goes, there's no friends when the puck drops."

Chris Stewart on his first two games with the Flames:

"The first two games we put ourselves behind the eight-ball here and we've got some work to do. But this is the most exciting time of the year. We've just got to embrace it and have some fun. We've got New York tonight and it should be a good opportunity to redeem my last couple of games."

Troy Brouwer on the attitude of the locker room:

"It's generally the same mentality. When you're in the playoffs with a ways to go and you're comfortably in, you still have to make sure that you have that intensity and that fire. When you're fighting everyday to stay in the playoffs or get into the playoffs, that fire is there. There's no extra motivation right now, it's there. Guys feel it in this room. We had a quick talk about it this morning. It's something that guys are excite for the challenge, excited for these last 17 games to get ourselves in the playoffs and hopefully be able to do something from there."
