SHARKS (19-18-2) at FLAMES (19-19-2)
TV: CSN-CA, SNW (7:00 PM MT)
Season series: The San Jose Sharks defeated the Calgary Flames 5-2 on Nov. 28 at SAP Center; the Flames responded with a 4-2 win on Dec. 8 at Scotiabank Saddledome. Flames defenceman Mark Giordano has three assists against the Sharks. Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Tommy Wingels, Tomas Hertl and Marc-Edouard Vlasic each have scored a goal and assist for the Sharks.
Sharks team scope: San Jose did not practice Sunday before its flight to Calgary. Coach Peter DeBoer told the Sharks website on Saturday that Dainius Zubrus is day-to-day because of an upper-body injury. He missed his first game on Saturday since joining the Sharks in November. The Sharks finished a five-game homestand at 2-3-0 when they defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-0 on Saturday for Martin Jones' fourth shutout of the season. "It was a nice win," DeBoer said. "Now we have to build on it." The Sharks have won six of 18 games at home, but have gone 13-6-2 on the road.
Flames team scope: Calgary goalie Karri Ramo, who was given Friday and Saturday off, is expected to make his 15th start in 17 games. He was hit in the neck by a shot from forward Mason Raymond in practice on Sunday and left the ice early. "He just took a shot. He's alright," coach Bob Hartley told the Flames website. "I saw it. I was right in the line of the shot so I knew exactly. I stopped the play right away. I hate to see guys get injured. [Josh] Jooris just took a puck right in the mouth right before. After this, I said, 'That's enough.'" Not only did second-line right wing Jooris take a puck in the face, but first-line right wing Michael Ferlund was injured when he took a puck in the lower midsection. Both players are expected to play. Michael Frolik (upper body) practiced for the second straight day after being cleared for contact since his injury occurred in a Dec. 15 game, but will not play.
