Season series: The New York Islanders won two games against the Calgary Flames last season, each by a 2-1 score. Islanders captain John Tavares scored twice on Jan. 2 at Scotiabank Saddledome and had an assist on Feb. 27 at Nassau Coliseum.
Flames team scope: It's the second of a three-game road trip for Calgary, which dropped a 4-1 decision at the New York Rangers on Sunday. After the loss, coach Bob Hartley confirmed Joni Ortio will get the start in goal against the Islanders; Jonas Hiller was pulled by Hartley after allowing four goals in 21 shots. The Flames have let to lead after two periods this season. "We've got to find a way to put the pucks in the net," captain Mark Giordano said. "I thought the chances were there (Sunday) by all of us."
Islanders team scope: New York returns home after a 3-2 overtime win at the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. Ryan Strome is expected to be back in the lineup after being a healthy scratch against the Blues. Goalie Jaroslav Halak, who lost for the first time this season against the Boston Bruins at Barclays Center on Friday, is expected to get the start against Calgary. "Just a structured team, a hard-working team," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said of the Flames. "Bob and his staff do a good job. Every night's a battle in this league, so we've got to be ready to play." The Islanders had the day off Sunday.
