BROADCAST INFO: 8:00 PM MT; Sportsnet, Sportsnet One (TV), Sportsnet 960 The FAN (radio)

SEASON SERIES: Wednesday's match-up is the first of five games between the Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes this season. The two clubs faced off once in the pre-season, with the Flames collecting a 2-1 shootout win. In that victory, Matthew Tkachuk scored Calgary's lone goal in regulation and netted the shootout winner. In their 2015-16 series with the Coyotes, the Flames held a 1-3-1 record. Mark Giordano and Sean Monahan led the team in scoring against Arizona last year, with one goal and four points each.

COYOTES TEAM SCOPE: The Coyotes have dropped their last two games, being edged by the Winnipeg Jets and Boston Bruins last week. Radim Vrbata scored in both of those setbacks and is now tied with Maxi Domi for the team lead in scoring with 11 points each. Oliver Ekman-Larsson leads Arizona defencemen in scoring with five goals and eight points through 14 skates. With veteran goaltender Mike Smith out with a lower body injury, Louis Domingue has shouldered the workload in net. The 24-year-old has a 4-8-0 record with a 3.42 GAA and a .899 save percentage.

FLAMES TEAM SCOPE: Calgary is coming off a 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night, which snapped a four-game losing skid. Johnny Gaudreau's power play marker was the lone goal in the game. Chad Johnson, in his sixth game of the season, made 27 saves in his shutout performance. Gaudreau, who now leads the team in scoring with five goals and 11 points, left the game twice after taking slashes. His status for the game against the Coyotes, as of Tuesday evening, is unknown.
