SEASON SERIES: Monday's game is the first meeting between the Calgary Flames and New York Islanders in the 2016-17 campaign. The two-game season series will wrap up on Mar. 5, 2017 when the Flames host the Islanders at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary went 0-1-1 against New York last year, with Johnny Gaudreau, Jiri Hudler and Sean Monahan being the only Flames to collect a point against the Islanders.
FLAMES TEAM SCOPE: Monday's game is the final stop on the Flames' six-game road trip that has seen them make stops in Detroit, Buffalo, Columbus, Boston and Philadelphia. The Flames are 3-2-0 on the trip with victories over the Red Wings, Blue Jackets and Bruins. The Flames are coming off of a 5-3 setback to the Flyers on Sunday. TJ Brodie, Matthew Tkachuk and Alex Chiasson scored and Chad Johnson made 38 saves in the loss.
ISLANDERS TEAM SCOPE: The Islanders have struggled early this season, going 6-10-4 in their opening 20 games. With 16 points on the year, they sit eighth in the Metropolitan Division and are well out of a Wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference. They have dropped four of their last five skates and are coming off a 3-2 setback to the San Jose Sharks on Friday. Captain John Tavares leads his team in scoring with five goals and 15 points. Brock Nelson (14 points) and Josh Bailey (11 points) round out the Islanders' top three in scoring. Jaroslav Halak has started 13 games this season and has a 3-6-4 record with a 3.08 GAA and a .904 save percentage.
