Player Spotlight: Five minutes with Byron Ritchie

Throughout the 2005-06 regular season will sit down one-on-one with players and have a little fun while finding out a little more about the player on a personal side.

Byron Ritchie was signed as a free agent July 2, 2004. Prior to his time with the Flames, Ritchie played with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers.

Ritchie played his first full NHL season back in 2003-04, posting 11 points (5g, 6a) and 84 penalty minutes with Florida.

During the lockout, Ritchie played with Rogle BK Angelholm in Sweden Div-2 recording 33 points (17g, 16a) and 111 penalty minutes in 30 games. He finished third on the team in points, third in goals and first in penatly minutes.

Ritchie: Happy.

If you weren't a hockey player, what would you be doing?

Ritchie: I'd be a firefighter.

It's a Saturday night and you're not playing hockey. What would you be doing?

Ritchie: Dinner and a movie with the wife.

What's your favourite food?

Ritchie: Steak.

What's your favourite Calgary Restaurant?

Ritchie: Da Paolo (Restorante)

Who is your favourite band right now?

Ritchie: Pearl Jam

What is your favourite television show?

Ritchie: I have two: Friends and Seinfeld.

What was the first car you owned?

Ritchie: '83 Chevy Camaro.

Which pro athlete would you most like to spend time with?

Ritchie: David Beckham. He's a fashion icon and just a world class soccer player.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Ritchie: Hawaii. I've never been to Hawaii.

You have a few hours to kill. Do you read a book or play a video game?

Ritchie: Videogame

Playstation or X-Box?

Ritchie: Playstation.

Worst job you've ever had?

Ritchie: Working at the Pepsi plant for a week, just stacking pop. That's the only job I've had.
