Dion Phaneuf was at the Alberta Children's Hospital on Wednesday as part of the three day Sixth Annual Radio-thon, broadcasted on Country 105 and Q107. Phaneuf spent nearly two hours making phone calls to raise money for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. With most of the calls going to Flames team mates, coaches, team owners and key management personnel, he helped raise over $40,000. This is the second Radio-thon he's participated in.
Phaneuf is the official player ambassador for the hospital. In the last year, he helped raise over $1.6 million dollars.
The defenceman leads the Flames' wheelchair hockey games against the Townsend Tigers School, visits the children at the hospital during the holidays and participates in the Candy Cane Gala, the hospital's Christmas fundraising event. Phaneuf also donates four tickets to every Flames home game for children and families staying at the hospital.
The Radio-thon will continue until Friday at the hospital between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m each day. The Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation raises funds for excellence in child health and family centered care. Through the generosity of donors, the Foundation provides funding for innovative programs, state-of-the-art equipment, advanced medical training and internationally recognized pediatric research.
