CALGARY, AB -- Abbotsford Heat goaltender Joni Ortio has been named to the American Hockey League’s 2013-14 All-Rookie Team.

In his first full season of hockey in North America, Ortio has helped fuel Abbotsford’s return to the Calder Cup Playoffs after compiling a 24-8-0 record in 34 appearances. The 22-year-old’s 24 wins places him sixth overall among goaltenders while his 2.37 goals against average is eight-best. Ortio's .924 save percentage was also third overall among goalies.

Coaches, players and media in each of the league’s 30 member cities vote on the award. Previous goaltenders to receive the honour include current NHLers J.S Giguere, Cam Ward, Jaroslav Halak, Jimmy Howard and Eddie Lack.
