HORAK BACK IN THE LINEUP
The Flames announced this morning that Blair Jones has been placed on the injured reserve indefinitely with a fractured ankle. The forward suffered the injury when he blocked a shot late in the game in Phoenix on Thursday night.
In response, Calgary recalled pivot Roman Horak from the Abbotsford Heat on Friday and tonight the youngster will play his first game in a Flames uniform since Jan. 24.
"I'm excited for sure," Horak said after practice. "It's a big honour to get called up every time and I'm going to try to do my best on the ice."
The last 48 hours in Horak's life can be best described as hectic. The Heat played in Calgary on Thursday night and left early on Friday morning for Abbotsford.
Upon arrival, they went through an intense practice. Afterwards, Horak was informed he was heading back to Calgary.
"It was crazy," he grinned. "Quick."
Horak will center "The Heat Line" tonight. Lance Bouma will be on his left side while Krys Kolanos will be on his right.
TOUGH DIVISIONAL MATCHUP
The Canucks, who currently sit second in the Western Conference with 73 points, present a big challenge for the Flames but they have had some success against them recently.
They handed the Canucks 3-1 loss in Vancouver on Dec. 23 and Jarome Iginla believes they can build off that victory as they head into tonight's battle.
"They're obviously one of the top teams in our conference and we've battled those teams pretty well this year. We want our confidence to keep growing and keep that up. We believe we're one game out of the playoffs. There's lots of time left but we think we're going in the right direction."
Defenceman Cory Sarich noted that while it is a familar refrain, the team needs to stick within the system that has made them successful in the past rather than trying to tailor their game to the Canucks style.
"It comes down to us being assertive and taking our game to them. You sit back and let this team roll, they can definitely hurt you."
