CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames prospects Mason McDonald (goaltender) and Brandon Hickey (defenceman) have been invited to Hockey Canada's U20 Summer Showcase from July 29-Aug. 6 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.
From Aug. 1-6, 40 players (three goaltenders, 13 defencemen and 24 forwards) will participate in practices on Aug. 1-2 before playing two games each against the Czech Republic (Aug. 4 and Aug. 6) and Russia (Aug. 3 and Aug. 5) at the Markin MacPhail Centre.
Hockey Canada's director of player personnel Ryan Jankowski was responsible for the player selections.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Canada’s top talent to show our coaches and scouts how they can help Canada succeed on the international stage," Jankowski said in Hockey Canada's press release.
After the Summer Showcase, Hockey Canada will continue to monitor the players through the first chunk of the 2015-16 season and at the CHL Super Series, determining which players will be invited to the National Junior Team selection camp in December.
After the selection camp, 22 players will be named for Team Canada for the IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland.
Tickets to the four Team Canada Summer Showcase games are available online. Four-game ticket packages can be purchased for $40 each and single-game tickets are available for $15.
McDonald, the Flames second round pick in 2014, recently attended the Hockey Canada Program Of Excellence goaltending camp. Hickey, Calgary's third round selection in 2014, is coming off a tremendous freshman season with Boston University, capturing the Hockey East Championship with the Terriers.
