CALGARY, AB -- 2015 Calgary Flames draft pick Andrew Mangiapane has been named an alternate captain of the Barrie Colts.
The 19-year-old is heading into his third season with the Colts after signing as a free agent in September 2013. In the 2014-15 campaign, he finished eighth in the OHL scoring race with 43 goals and 104 points in 68 games. He is just the eighth player in Colts history to hit the 100-point mark.
"Andrew is a small guy who has worked his tail off while earning a ton of respect from his accomplishments in his couple years with Barrie," Colts head coach Dale Hawerchuk told the team's website. "He is someone his teammates look up to."
The Flames drafted Mangiapane in the sixth round this past summer. He played in one pre-season game with Calgary before being assigned to Barrie on Sept. 22. In four pre-season games with the Colts, the Bolton, ON native notched two goals and six points.
The Colts kick off the regular season on Sept. 25, visiting the Kingston Frontenacs.
