CALGARY, AB --
Calgary Flames forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond
has been suspended for five games by the NHL.
Letourneau-Leblond delivered a hit from behind on Canuck Matt Clackson in the third period of Tuesday's split-squad game in Vancouver. He was assessed an on-ice minor penalty for boarding."Our organization recognizes and fully supports the increased emphasis placed on enhancing and ensuring player safety, and we are (and were) fully aware of the increased consequences for hits deemed to be in violation of the new standards," said Flames general manager Jay Feaster. "Both the Flames organization and Pierre and happy to know that Matt Clackson was not injured on the play. We respect the League’s decision, and both the team and Pierre intend to abide by the NHL’s ruling.
