Knight, Baertschi lead Heat to win over Ice Hogs

by Torie Peterson / Calgary Flames

ABBOTSFORD, BC -- Corban Knight and Sven Baertschi came up big for the Abbotsford Heat in the team's 6-3 victory over the Rockford Ice Hogs on Friday.

Knight registered his first professional hat trick and Baertschi amassed two goals and five points in the win. Their linemate, the recently-acquired Tim Miller, also had a multi-point evening, scoring one goal and two assists.

Joni Ortio was also key in the victory, making 45 saves on 48 shots.

Rockford jumped out to an early lead with a goal from Mark McNeill but the Heat responded with three markers of their own, courtesy of Miller and Knight (2) respectively.

Alex Broadhurst was able to pull the Ice Hogs within a goal just 49 seconds into the second stanza but Knight completed the hat trick at the 7:18 mark and then Baertschi added his first goal of the evening.

Ice Hogs defenceman Adam Clendening scored his team's third goal late in the second period but that was all the offence they could muster against Ortio. Baertschi added an empty-netter to ice the win for Abbotford.

Baertschi now has 16 points in his last 12 games and has registered 27 through 37 games with the Heat this season.

The Heat are back at it against the Rockford Ice Hogs on Saturday, April 5th at 7:00 PM PT at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. For tickets, please call 1-877-452-HEAT (4328) or visit us online at
