CALGARY, AB -- It’s Christmas come early for Morgan Klimchuk.

The Calgary Flames prospect inked his first professional contract, signing a three-year, entry-level pact with the Flames on Tuesday.

“Words can’t really describe it,” said Klimchuk, selected 28th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft. “It’s an honour joining my hometown team, the Calgary Flames, such a great organization. To actually sign my first pro deal is something that’s obviously every kid’s dream growing up. To actually get it done, it feels great.”

Eighteen months ago, Klimchuk was starting his journey towards the NHL Draft.

Eighteen months later, he's earned himself a professional contract.

It’s happened pretty quickly for the 18-year-old.

“You play it out in your mind like that but for it to actually happen, to put pen to paper and actually get drafted, I’m very excited,” he said. “Words can’t really describe it.

“For them to put that faith in me and actually sign me to a deal is something that’s a huge honour. That’s all I can really say. It’s a goal to get drafted and to go to my hometown is something that’s very special and to be officially joining the organization now by signing a contract, I’m over the moon right now. I’m very excited.

“I’m just very thankful for the opportunity.”

Klimchuk has 12 goals and 29 points in 26 games for the Regina Pats this season and represented the Western Hockey League in the Subway Super Series.
