CALGARY, AB -- The Tampa Bay Lightning managed to get just two pucks by Karri Ramo.
It was enough.
Ondrej Palat had a goal and an assist while Ben Bishop made 19 saves for his fourth shutout of the season to lead the Lightning to a 2-0 victory over the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday.
After a scoreless first period, Palat beat Ramo over the glove at 5:23 of the second after taking a pass from Teddy Purcell in the slot. Less than five minutes later, Palat set up Nikita Kucherov for a tap-in to Ramo’s right to put the Lightning up 2-0.
Despite some third period heroics from Ramo to keep Calgary in the game, the Flames couldn’t capitalize on Bishop to drop their fourth straight on home ice.
SAVE OF THE GAME
With Shane O’Brien serving a roughing minor, Ramo flashed the right pad twice in a span of seconds to deny Teddy Purcell’s initial shot and Tyler Johnson’s rebound attempt to keep the game scoreless early in the first period.
After taking a pass from Purcell in the slot, Palat beat Ramo over the glove 5:23 into the second period for the eventual game-winner.
QUOTE OF THE GAME
“It’s not a recipe to win games. It’s really frustrating. We definitely feel like we’re letting the goaltenders down. They’ve played great. Every game, they’ve kept us in it and given us a chance. It’s frustrating. It’s hard. It’s definitely a disappointing feeling for the 18 skaters out there letting them down.”
STAT OF THE GAME
In his first game back after missing 16 with a broken hand, Dennis Wideman played 20:30.
