CALGARY, AB -- On Thursday morning, the NHL announced Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla is on the 2012 All-Star Game roster.
"It's an honour to be selected," the affable winger said after the Flames pre-game skate. "We could have had other guys on our team for sure - Glennie's had a great first half, Kipper again, Olli. But it feels good to be selected and I plan to be there."
The selection comes right in the middle of hot streak for the captain. He's potted 11 goals and 26 points in his last 23 games, was named the NHL's First Star during the week of Dec. 4-11 and became just the 42nd player in League history to score 500 goals on Jan. 7 in a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Wild.
"I've been very fortunate and it's been a fun year in some ways," Iginla said. "We had a tough start as a team but I think we are playing a lot better in our last 20 or so game, our second quarter.
"As far as personally, probably the highlight so far (was) reaching 500 and being able to do it at home. I've really appreciative of the fans, the support, my teammates. It was something that was pretty cool and I'll remember for sure."
